BAME Rep Job Role

Black, Asian, & Minority Ethnic Rep

The Black, Asian, & Minority Ethnic Rep (BAME) Rep promotes inclusivity on campus and is a spokesperson for all students of African, Arab, Caribbean, Asian, Latin American and First Nation decent. This Rep sits on the Strath Union's Inclusion Committee and directly reports to the Vice President Inclusion, as well as working closely together with the Student Exec on campaigns concerning students identifying as BAME.

The Rep must self-define as a student within the Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic community and be enrolled at Strathclyde University.

Term:  March to March (exact dates TBC)
Honorarium: £600 (paid in instalments at end of Semester 1 and Semester 2)
Time Commitment: approx. 3 hours per week during semester


This role will:

  1. Represent the voice of BAME students within the Union.
  2. Identify issues relevant to BAME students.
  3. Canvass BAME student opinion to be aware of common problems and concerns and where these exist ensure that Union Executive Committee/ Student Parliament are made aware of these.
  4. Run campaigns related to BAME student issues.
  5. Ensure that the needs of BAME students are reflected through the activities of the Union.
  6. Be the lead officer in all matters related to NUS Scotland Black Students Campaign.
  7. Attend all relevant training, conferences and conventions that are relevant to the remit of this position.


An honorarium will be awarded when:

  1. The rep led a campaign/project that champions BAME students’ issues on campus
  2. The rep attends the Inclusion Committee meetings in the semester or has provided an appropriate reason for non-attendance. 
  3. The rep has attended Student Parliament or provided an appropriate reason for non-attendance
