Equestrian

Strathclyde Equestrian is an all-inclusive club that hopes to encourage anyone to come along and get involved. Whether you are an experienced competitive equestrian or have never sat on a horse before – everyone is welcome!

Competitive – BUCS

With competitive teams, more experienced riders are able to develop their skills and compete against other universities.

We have four teams - and a number of reserves - that compete regularly throughout the year against other Scottish universities in different leagues. In the year 2022-23, we had teams and individuals place top of both the Championship and Trophy Leagues and qualify for the Scotland Regionals and UK National Finals.

There is no need to have your own horse, as we are based at Busby Equitation Centre who kindly provide a variety of horses and ponies. Busby Equitation Centre is accessible by train (Busby train station is a 5 mins walk from the stables) or by car.

To be considered for our competitive teams we ask that you are capable and have experience of riding a Prelim level dressage test and 80cm showjumping course.

Recreational

If you are a complete beginner, then don’t worry! We have monthly Recreational lessons that cater to those with no horse riding experience.

Socials

We love welcoming new members and having fun on our infamous pony socials! We organise regular social events such as Wednesday Sports Nights, pottery painting, bowling, Christmas dinner, as well as attend Sports Union events such as the much anticipated Sports Ball.

We also offer joint socials with other Strathclyde sports clubs as well as joint Equestrian socials with the University of Glasgow and Glasgow Caledonian University – the more the merrier!
