The Medieval Society aims to learn about and recreate parts of medieval life. We have regular combat training where you can learn to fight with replica weapons in safe, improvised combat. We also have regular crafting sessions where our members work on pieces of their authentic, medieval clothing, on our banner, or on personal projects.
All of our activities culminate in re-enactment events throughout the summer, which we attend as part of a Scotland wide re-enactment group called Brittania XIV. Events are a weekend of showing off what you've learnt and made to the public and hanging out around campfires once the public have gone home for the day. If you have a particular interest within medieval history, events are also a great opportunity to set up a display and teach people about your passion.
We meet each Saturday outside the Union foyer before half 12, and then either head to Rottenrow Gardens for combat training or, if the grass is too wet, into the Union for some crafts. Feel free to pop along, even if you can't stay for an entire session, and we'll be happy to tell you more about re-enactment.
Membership for the year costs £10, which covers practice equipment and health insurance for our sessions and for the events in summer. Once you're a member, the only costs of going to an event are travel and food.
