Anna McKinley

Better Admissions. Better Integration. Better Experience. Better Strathclyde.

As International Student Representative, I aim to improve the experience of University for all International Students across Strathclyde. The University experience begins long before the first lecture begins or the first Freshers event starts, and the support for International Students should too. When elected to this position I will provide the best representation for International Students and will strive to improve admissions, integration, and experience by accomplishing the following:

  • Increase assistance with the Visa application process for Non-EU Students, making this information more available to those who have applied or are thinking of applying
  • Increase communication channels for staff and International Applicants who cannot use UK phone numbers to communicate with the University
  • Address the language barrier for ESL students through University resources
  • Increase pre-admission support and information for students
  • Sponsor more opportunities for International students to explore Scotland
  • Continue to ensure EU Students’ interest and value are upheld by the University and staff, regardless of future negations and outcomes from the UK Government

Entering Uni is a stressful time for any student, regardless of origin. International students endure the same challenges and more. They have to undergo the stress and expenses of travel from their country; students coming from outside the EU have to go through the Visa Application process, something that is notorious for its complexity and expense. International students deserve better support from the University to improve the application process and integration into Scottish culture and University life.
