Ever feel like the world is a stressful place? Ever feel down on yourself but unable to understand why? It doesn’t have to be that way. Welcome to the free CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) Groupwork sessions from ACT Counselling Services available to Strathclyde students from January 2019. These sessions will look at how biased or unhelpful thoughts and feelings can cause us problems and give self-help tips that can change your life. We are offering the three sessions detailed below once a month (day and evening blocks) for three months and you can come along to as many of the three as you like (maximum of 15 persons per session).

Thinking & Depression

Whoever you think you are, you're right! Our thinking patterns can become biased by our beliefs and can cause a negative effect on our mood. But with some simple CBT exercises, we can change these and have a whole new sense of perception.

Anxiety & Mindfulness

We all know how anxiety feels, but what is it? It is our internal threat system, the “fight or flight" response. We learn what makes us anxious throughout our lives and it can keep us safe. But if we lose control of it then it can massively affect our lives. This session is about taking control of disordered anxiety and managing it through CBT techniques and mindfulness.

CBT: A Student Survival Guide

The life of a student can be tough. Assignment and exam stress, pressure to succeed, procrastination, deadlines and juggling all this with work and a social life. This session demonstrates CBT techniques to thrive in university.
