Student Carers Policy

In conjunction with the student union the university has designed a new policy to provide student carers with more flexibility in deadlines and attendance as well as giving some financial support to student carers who are home students by giving them priority access to discretionary fund.

The policy also provides a named person that student carers can go to that can help them navigate the support that the university offers.  You can find more info by getting in touch with the widening access team at: wideningaccess@strath.ac.uk.

Advice Hub

The go to place for advice on academic, financial, housing and personal issues. They have drop  in sessions or you can arrange an appointment.  

Mental Health Support

Caring can be stressful itself, let alone when balancing it with studying. If you feel that you finding it hard and needing counselling support  you can use the university’s counselling service.  

We also have a nightline which is a confidential listening service done by student volunteers. Call 0141 55 22 555 or text 07982107920  from 7 pm to 7 am Monday to Friday during term time.

Financial Support

If you are struggling financially, the university has student financial support team that can give you some advice on what financial support is available to student carers by the university. They are based on level 1 of McCance and have drop in services during the week.

External Carers Organisations

Carers Trust Scotland - They are the largest provider of carers support services in Scotland and have links with other local charities that provide support for carers. They also work to improve the lives of carers across Scotland through campaigning and lobbying efforts.

Carers Scotland - This organisation provides information and support for carers.
