We are delighted to announce that Strath Union have won three awards at this year’s Best Bar None awards.
Presented to us on Thursday 22nd November at the special ceremony at the Grand Central Hotel, Strath Union received a ‘Gold Award - Specialist Entertainment Venue’; the ‘Best Training Award’; and ‘Overall Winner - Specialist Entertainment Venue’.
Now in its 14th year, the annual event recognises best practice among the licensed trade sector and has become the industry event of the year attracting landlords, licensees and staff from venues across the city.
Best Bar None Glasgow is a community safety programme designed to encourage and recognise best practice among licensed premises and is delivered on behalf of Glasgow Alcohol & drugs Partnership with Police Scotland and Community Safety Glasgow among others.
The scheme gives us the opportunity to demonstrate that your Union operates to the high standards that we (and you) expect.
Head of Commercial Services for Strath Union, Phil Reavey, said: “The awards this year had the highest number of entries since launching back in 2005; winning in these categories just shows how all of our hard work pays off in amongst Glasgow’s bustling bar scene. Every year we’re always looking at ways on building on the great work we do, and it’s amazing to see that it’s being recognised. I really want to thank the entire bar staff and Strathclyde students in making it another successful year in the Union bars.
Alex Brock, VP Sports & Wellbeing , said: “Every year we always make sure we bring unforgettable nights to the Union. As part of this work it’s vitally important that we create a safe place for students to enjoy their nights. These awards highlight that student safety is at the forefront of the work that we do along. We’re always looking at ways to improve our venues and the student experience and would love to hear from our members – one example being our involvement in the Glasgow Taxi Safe Taxi Scheme whereby students can get home safely with just their matriculation card. We have a number of different initiatives currently being developed, so after the New Year watch this space!”
John Ehizogie Agbonrofo, VP Support, said: "These awards highlight that student safety is at the forefront of the work that we do amongst other things. We’re always looking at ways to improve our venues and the student experience and would love to hear from our members. There will be more enhancements coming in the New Year to further improve our students' experience. Special thanks to the entire bar staff and Strathclyde students for these achievements this year. Always remember to Keep Smiling.”
