At Marie Curie, We provide care and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families.

Last year we cared for over 40,000 people across the UK. Marie Curie Nurses provide highly skilled care in our hospices and in people’s homes across the UK, day and night. And our trained volunteers and advisers offer practical information and support when you don’t know what to do next or just need to talk.

Coronavirus (covid-19) has made it more challenging to care for people at the end of their lives. Our dedicated team have worked hard over the past 10 months to continue to provide care and support for those who need it and to find different ways to put a smile on someone’s face.

Here's an example of a very special surprise our West Midlands hospice team organised for one of our patients.

Volunteering Roles

Helper Volunteer

Marie Curie Helper volunteers visit terminally ill people in their homes, offering companionship and support for up to three hours each week. The role involves helping with activities such as reading, making short trips to the shops and providing information on local services. It also requires patience, empathy and the ability to listen. Helper volunteers receive extensive training before they start, and then ongoing support throughout their time volunteering.

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, Helper volunteers are providing virtual support to the individuals they support, through telephone, Facetime, letters etc.

We currently have a waiting list for new volunteers.

Shop Volunteer

Our charity shops rely on generous donations made by the public to raise crucial funds for Marie Curie. From clothes, homeware and books, to CDs and DVDs, we sell a wide variety of products.

We are looking for volunteers to help us sort through all these donations, pick out the best items and prepare and sell them to our customers. Without the help of our dedicated volunteers we could not provide our customers with high quality items at affordable prices. This allows us to raise funds so our nurses can continue to provide care to terminally ill people and support for their families.

Please note that our shops are currently closed due to the current COVID-19 restrictions. You can still register your interest and we will contact you once we're able to open our doors again.
