Please take a moment to check out the candidate list and manifesto pledges for all students running for a position on the 2020-21 Sports Executive Committee.
The Sports Executive Committee - warmly known as the 'Sports Exec' - is made up of nine student volunteers and one full-time paid Sabbatical Officer, the Sports President.
This group, along with invited advisors such as the Head of Sport, discuss and make key decisions which affect all areas of the sport programme, including participation, club sport and performance.
Getting involved with the Sports Exec is an excellent opportunity for you to learn more about the Sports Union and see first hand what goes into running one of the largest and most diverse student sport programmes in Scotland.
The below volunteer roles within the Sports Exec are managed by the Sports President during the academic year. Amongst core responsibilities such as helping with events like the Sports Ball, each role holder is responsible for their own unique area.

To be elected to the Sports Exec, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a current membership of the Sports Union
- Be a current student during the academic year in office (e.g. 2020-21)
- Only run for one nominated position
- Be nominated and seconded by two current Sports Union members
Nominations for the 2020-21 Sports Exec are now closed.
Voting for all Sports Exec positions will take place during the Sports Union Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday 3rd April 2020. All member Sports Clubs of the Sports Union will receive one vote per role.
Candidates will have a brief opportunity at the AGM to speak about their motivation to run for Sports Exec. Due to the impact of COVID-19 and hosting the AGM, we are encouraging candidates to submit a short video as an alternative method.
Withdrawals must be submitted to the Returning Officer by email using only the candidate's University of Strathclyde student email account.
We believe that student sport has a key role to play within the University, and as was very evident during 2019-20, the Sports Exec held a pivotal role in the successful delivery of the sport programme at Strathclyde.
Volunteering as a member of the Sports Exec is great way to enhance your student experience and make the most of your time at the University of Strathclyde. Previous members of the committee also used the opportunity to develop skills that complemented their education - a key factor that many employers look for on a CV or application form.
As well as the employability factor, the social side of being involved in the Sports Exec is second to none! There are also a few freebies too...
- Free Sports Union membership
- Free Captains Dinner ticket
- Free Sports Ball ticket
- Free official University of Strathclyde leisurewear
We offer a range of training and education workshops for volunteers on the Sports Exec, with the highlight being the annual Handover Residential. Members are whisked off by the Sports President to a holiday home somewhere in Scotland, usually around end of May.
