Welcome to the University of Strathclyde Shinty Club!
Shinty is a traditional Scottish sport now primarily played in the Scottish Highlands. Each player has a stick (caman) used to hit the shinty ball and the game bears some similarity to the Irish sport of hurling.
There are 7 university teams across Scotland, with the Strathclyde Universities teams being considered some of the biggest competition in University Shinty. We have both a men's and women's team, each with a history of success, often winning their leagues. Both teams are looking ahead to build on last years success and win both womens and mens SSS league titles.
The shinty club is fun and enthusiastic, and we know how to celebrate our success! We host social events across Glasgow so joining the club is a great way to see the city and get shown around by current members.
We are a hugely welcoming club with players of all abilities, so come along and give this great Scottish sport a try!

Membership – what do I need?
1. Sports Union Membership – this is a flat £30 fee for the year (or £20 for one semester) which goes directly back to the club to fund various club activities and operations, including:
- Personal accident and public liability insurance
- Coaching fees, competition entry and transport costs, club equipment and external facility hire
2. Sports Club Bolt-on Fee – we also charge a £10 joining fee for the year which is charged to subsidise additional sport specific costs such as buying and maintaining equipment. This fee is charged on top of the Sports Union membership and again, goes directly back to the club and participants taking part in our activities.
