Club Coach recruitment
Coaches and instructors are an integral part of the USSU’s club sport activity, and are important in maintaining club development, safety, and the quality of sports activity our sports clubs provide. Follow the steps below to help guide recruitment for a club coach:
Recruitment
The Sports Union can help with advertisement and contact the relevant NGBs: Sportscotland, Scottish Student Sport and BUCS.
Selection
The relevant club committee members should conduct standard and/or practical interviews and contact references.
coach agreement
The club and coach are required to agree terms of services. If paid, then coach and club captain must sign a contract for services.
Forms
The coach must complete the online registration form. Qualifications, confirmation of insurance and a signed contract for services should be emailed to the Sport Development Coodinator.
start date
The club and coach decide on a start date for club training sessions/fixtures.
Invoices
Coaches to send a monthly invoice to club captain for approval. A template can be found in the resources section.
review coach
Club to periodically review coach performance. Coach to re-registister annually along with a new contract for services each year if paid.
General Info
Please ensure your coach/instructor retains a copy of the coach’s pack and appropriate forms. Paid coaches should be referred to the Self-Employment and Payment Section and Code of Conduct. Club committee members can access committee training to complete the training module specific to coach recruitment, retention development and finance.
No coach/instructor should lead sessin unless the following are completed:
- Coach registration
- All coaching qualification to be sent to the Sports Development Coordinator.
- All paid coaches must have a valid contract for services
- All coaches to be sent the coaches pack and code of conduct
