Musical Theatre Society - SMTS

Welcome to SMTS, your new Theatre Family!

Whether you are a veteran of the stage, or you are just beginning to find your voice - you always have a place at SMTS. In this society we celebrate creativity, diversity, and imagination - all through the medium of Musical Theatre. Our members hale from all across Glasgow and beyond, with some even joining us from other colleges and universities. We are one of only a few amateur dramatics societies to feature an Open Chorus Policy, whereby all members are given the opportunity to perform in our chorus regardless of the outcome of any soloist auditions they may choose to undertake. We also work in close partnership with other music societies to form an SMTS Pit Band of highly skilled student/Glasgow based musicians who accompany us during performances - so if this is something that interests you contact us on the society email! 

In addition, we offer plenty of opportunities Behind the Scenes. If you are an aspiring Director, Choreographer, Stage Manager, Composer/Arranger, Props Master, Costume Designer, Light and Sound Technician, etc. then we will support you in these ambitions, with opportunities to work alongside a team of skilled PT with a range of experience!

Every year we as a society emerge even stronger and with greater determination to make the upcoming academic year more memorable than any before. Here's what you can look forward to as a member!

Semester 1

This semester we will be working towards a charity night. We will be performing songs from a range of musicals in a cabaret style (with a twist). We will have a mixture of soloists, small group songs and numbers involving our whole ensemble. As always there will be lots of behind the scenes work too with our Production Team so there are plenty of opportunities for anyone who wants to be involved. 

Rehearsals for the charity night will primarily be held on Monday nights in GH902 for our ensemble numbers and Tuesday nights in GH902 for the soloist numbers. 

Each year we partner with a charity of our members' choosing and spend the semester fundraising for them! Our charity for the 25/26 Academic year was Children's Hospices Across Scotland, and we are looking forward to deciding who we partner with this year!

Semester 2

In Semester 2 we will be working towards performing a full-length musical! With even more opportunities both on stage - in principal, featured or ensemble roles - as well as backstage - working in the wings, the set building team or with our wonderful tech crew - there is plenty to get involved with. Our 2027 musical will be announced at our charity night in November, but join the society to find out sooner ;)

Last year's performance was "Into The Woods" at the Woodside Halls in Glasgow between the 18th and 20th of June 2026! Into The Woods was our 5th full length musical and we are super excited to perform more!
