Meet the 2026/27 Sports President - Tilly!

featured

Strathclyde has a new Sports Union President, let us introduce to you Tilly Galvin. Tilly takes up presidency on 1st June, so we thought we’d get a chance to let you get to know Tilly a little bit better ahead of the upcoming academic year.

Here is how she answered some of our hard-hitting questions…

Q: You’ve got big shoes to fill in the presidency, what do you hope to bring to the table?

Tilly: Well, I’m not going to lie I am a bit worried about filling Anna’s shoes. I’m excited to come into the role, maybe bring some new perspectives in. Anna has done an amazing job and I want to continue her legacy, there are lots of issues around the SU we can develop so I want to highlight them to the wider university community.

Q: Talk to us about your manifesto promises.

Tilly: I want to better communicate to our members. About the facilities here, like using the union and communicating through the TVs at Strath Sport. I also want to build on our relationship with Strath Sport and the facilities at Stepps Playing Fields.

I’m obviously not going to magic up some extra fields or space, but I think it’s something that can be discussed further.

Q: If you could only play one sport here at Strath what would it be?

Tilly: Oh that’s a tough one, I’ve got no clue. I know I play two sports, Women’s Football and Badminton.

But I’m going to have to choose Badminton. Girls, don’t kill me.

Q: What would your go-to pre-match snack be?

Tilly: I don’t really eat before matches or that, which isn’t great. But if I were to it would be an orange.

I’m addicted to Irn Bru, I tried giving it up for Lent and just went back to it as soon as Lent finished. It’s not healthy I know…

Q: What is your hype up song?

Tilly: Ugh I’ve got so many, where do I start? On The Floor by J Lo first of all. The Mika song that goes “I can be brown, I can be blue, I can be violet” that one. And then my go to Karaoke song is My Way by Frank Sinatra.

I sing that every year on the Union stage at Taxis…

Q: Back to your presidency, what do you hope your legacy will be?

Tilly: Hopefully a stronger community within the Sports Union, working together across clubs, the union, members to all use our contacts and resources together. We’re all here to have fun and play sports so I want to bring people together to try out new things.

Q: If you were to start tomorrow what would the first thing you do be?

Tilly: I would get to know everyone, from the Students Union to different sports. Getting to know the Union President Fraser, and all of the team that I am going to get work with over the next year.

I just think it’s gonna be super duper fun and I can’t wait to get started!

Tilly will take over from current Sports President Anna. We want to thank Anna for all her work and support over the past 2 years. We can’t wait to see what the 2026/27 academic year will bring! If you want to see more from Tilly, and her handover with Anna, check out our Instagram!
