About me

Hola, I’m Lucia! I am your Education President for the second time for the 2026–27 academic year, and I’m excited to continue working with students and staff to enhance our learning experience at Strathclyde.

I’m passionate about democratising education, ensuring students actively shape their formal education, fundamental in our personal and professional development. I believe in building equitable and just academic environments where our learning reflects the future we want to create. A key part of my role is empowering students to feel heard and valued. I want to show that raising your voice can create meaningful, positive change, and that through collaboration we can shape an education grounded in progressive values.

Originally from Spain, I’ve lived in Scotland for eight years. I studied Film, Media and Politics, and I am now completing an MSc in Sustainability and Environmental Studies. Alongside this, I’ve been actively involved in volunteering, youth work, and climate action initiatives. And after work, you can find me out and about in community groups in Glasgow, hopefully growing some veggies successfully this year.

My manifesto

1. A Just and Compassionate Education system

   I'll continue the reform of the Personal Circumstances system to ensure coordinated support when students face hardship. I'll also advocate for greater support for international students, including clearer and compassionate communication around visas and robust support for late arrivals, while campaigning nationally to challenge hostile visa regulations and the current education funding crisis alongside student officers across the UK.

2. Future–Ready Learning and Employability

   I'll continue collaborating with the university to expand credit-bearing work experience and industry collaboration, so students graduate with real-world experience. I'll also push for clearer guidance on AI and work towards responsible AI policies in education that effectively addresses pedagogical, ethical, and environmental risks while preparing students for an AI- shaped job market. Alongside this, I'll continue empowering students to shape Education for Sustainability.

3. Recognising Student Achievements

   I'll introduce digital badges, expanding certification at Strath Union, and amplify university recognition through HEAR so that committee members' roles, StrathReps, volunteers, and awards are recognised and boost employability.

4. Student Voice at the heart of Strathclyde

   I'll implement the upcoming Student Academic Representation Policy, developing its guidelines and strengthening training, accountability, and feedback systems for staff and reps while expanding PGR representation and supporting the creation of a PGR Association.
