Black History Month

This is Strath Union’s Campaign page for Black History Month at Strathclyde.

What is Black History Month?

Black History Month (BHM) is held annually in October in the UK, with a series of national events and exhibitions acknowledging and celebrating the outstanding achievements of Black people throughout UK history, past and present.

Black History Month Scotland

It provides an opportunity to bring together people of all cultures and ethnicities to celebrate the key role that African, Caribbean and Asian people have played in Scottish history and society.

We are using the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights' definition of Black History Month, which includes people of African, Caribbean and Asian heritage.

What does BHM mean to students?

It's an acknowledgement of seeing how far we've come and also looking into the future and discovering where we end up going.

Watch our video series from 2024 when we spoke to 3 Strathclyde students about Black History Month.

What events are happening?

Take a look at what's on around campus throughout the month with Union, University and society led events and workshops.
