International Students' Officer Role

International Students’ Officer

The International Students' Officer promotes inclusivity on campus and is a spokesperson and advocate for issues that impact international students. This Officer sits on both the Strath Union's Inclusion Committee and the Education Committee and reports to both the Inclusion President and the Education President. They work closely with other Equality Officers, Faculty Reps and Executive Officers on campaigns concerning International Students.  

The officer must be an international student enrolled at University of Strathclyde and be subject to international tuition fees. 

Term: April 2026 - April 2027

Time Commitment: Approximately 3-5 hours per week, variable throughout the semester

Honorarium: £1000 (paid in two instalments in November and April)

Useful Skills

The ability to listen to, and advocate for, the concerns of students

Community engagement and teamwork skills

An understanding of educational and political issues that impact international students

The ability to navigate sensitive political, professional, and personal issues with impartiality and confidentiality

Key Meetings:

  • Inclusion Committee

  • Education Committee (monthly during the semester)

  • Strath Union Student Parliament (monthly during the semester)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with other members of the Inclusion Committee, Education Committee, and Executive Officers on campaigns, projects, and events.   

  • Be accessible to students, field student inquiries and signpost them to appropriate resources and services  

  • Serve as an advocate for international students at the Union and University 

  • Work in partnership with relevant Strath Union staff, including the Voice Team and the Advice Hub

An honorarium will be awarded when:

  • The officer has led a campaign/project that champions international student issues on campus. 

  • The officer attends the Inclusion Committee and Education Committee meetings in the semester or has provided an appropriate reason for non-attendance.  

  • The officer has attended Student Parliament or provided an appropriate reason for non-attendance.

Role Specific Training

  • Extensive training and support will be provided to ensure you are fully equipped for the role.
  • Additional training and ongoing support are provided throughout the academic year including training workshops, conferences, events and project funds.
