Postgraduate Research Faculty Rep

Strath Union is working with the Doctoral Researchers Group and the University of Strathclyde to ensure that PGR representation is working as best as it can for students. 

Postgraduate Research Faculty Reps represent students’ views and interests at faculty-wide meetings and committees, as well as in Union committees and meetings. They support the department reps in their faculty and act as a link between department reps, University staff and the Union. There is one Postgraduate Research Faculty Rep role for each of the four faculties. Reps must be enrolled as a postgraduate research student within the faculty they are representing.

Term: October 2026 - October 2027

Time Commitment: Approximately 3-5 hours per week, variable throughout the semester

Honorarium: £1000 (paid in two instalments in April and November)

The ability to listen to, and advocate for, the concerns of students

Key Meetings:

  • Education Committee (monthly during the semester)

  • Strath Union Student Parliament (monthly during the semester)

  • Faculty specific committees and meetings (typically twice per semester, but can vary)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as an advocate for issues relating to education and the experiences of PGR students in their faculty

  • Attend faculty level committees

  • Attend Student Parliament and Education Committee

  • Liaise with department representatives within their faculty

  • Be accessible to students, field student enquiries and signpost them to appropriate resources and services

  • Work in partnership with Equality Officers and Executive Officers on relevant events and campaigns

  • Work in partnership with relevant Strath Union staff, including the Voice Team and the Advice Hub

An honorarium will be awarded when:

  • The rep has attended all applicable Faculty meetings, Education Committee meetings and Student Parliament meetings, or has provided an appropriate reason for non-attendance.

Role Specific Training

  • Extensive training and support will be provided to ensure you are fully equipped for the role.
  • Additional training and ongoing support are provided throughout the academic year including training workshops, conferences, events and project funds.
