Join this book group to explore Layla Saad's 'Me & White Supremacy' workbook. This is relevant to any person who holds white privilege. Everyone is welcome.
Me and White Supremacy leads readers through a journey of understanding their white privilege and participation in white supremacy, so that they can stop (often unconsciously) inflicting damage on Black, Indigenous and People of Color, and in turn, help other white people do better, too. The book goes beyond the original workbook by adding more historical and cultural contexts, sharing moving stories and anecdotes, and includes expanded definitions, examples, and further resources.
You can sign up by purchasing one of the free tickets above. Before you sign up, please read this interview with the author, Layla Saad, on refinery 29 to make sure you have a good idea of what this book group will involve.
There will be 4 sessions in total. You must commit to taking part in all of them. The groups will take place on Thursdays 4.30pm - 5pm, starting with 8 October. In the first event, we will discuss the Introduction & Part I, using the review questions from Day 7.
Please have the book ready and read each section up front. We will be working in seven day blocks (this will make sense once you have the book). The chair will rotate in each meeting (we will agree how we want to work as a group at the first meeting.
Let us know if you need help obtaining a copy of the book - email strathunion.info@strath.ac.uk
