About us

Here at the Biomedical Sciences Society our focus is networking across all years and all disciplines of biomedical science.

We provide students with an interest in the Biomedical Sciences a society that aims to encourage this enthusiasm, as well as organise opportunities to meet other students on their course or with similar interests.

We encourage a tight-knit SIPBS community by organising events that allow people in different years to mix, as well as opportunities to engage with staff.

We organise study sessions with groups from different years to help advise and encourage them through our studies. Having a collective of years is beneficial to understanding topics (or asking for advice on coursework), so we recommend coming along!

As a society, we understand how difficult starting university can be, which is why we try to help new students settle into life at Strathclyde by organising freshers' events as well as socials throughout the year, all with opportunities to make new friends and build confidence.

Some of these events have included: post-exam pizza parties, research workshops, movie nights and even participating in the union's Drag Bingo (our new favourite)!

Our social activities are set up to allow our members to relax and decompress in order to maintain a good work/life balance during studies; whether you enjoy themed nights out, creative events or participating in academic workshops, there is something for everyone.

The society also helps facilitate the organisation of an annual gradball for 3rd and 4th years, particularly via fundraising activities. If you are interested in joining this committee for 2025/2026, please get in touch! Any help is welcome!

The committee can be contacted by email or via our social media accounts to answer any questions you may have about the society. You can find us @strathbiomed on Instagram.
