About us

About us

Marine Robotics Society is a student-led group at the University of Strathclyde, fostering innovation in marine robotics systems. Organised by students, for students, we provide hands-on experience with cutting-edge marine robotics technology. With our main technical project, StrathVoyager, we participate in international competitions, such as the NJORD Challenge.

We host weekly meetings on Wednesdays (5 pm at HD1.13), where we gather to work on our technical projects, conduct workshops, or host guest talks from industry representatives.

If you're interested, feel free to reach out via our email or Instagram!

We recruit all year long, so don't hesitate to contact us now!

People of all backgrounds are welcome to join the project! Our main sub-teams include:

  • Mechanical Team -  focusing on all related to design and manufacturing. CAD, 3D design, CFD simulations, Finite Element Analysis, 3D printing, etc.
  • Electrical Team - anything related to electrical and electronics. PCB, electronic diagrams, sensor integration, soldering, anything cables and batteries, etc.
  • Software Team - anything related to software. Programming, control algorithms, sensor interface, navigation, decision making, etc. Just general brain of the ASV.
  • Social Media / Business Team - a team focusing on running our social media and contacts with companies for sponsorship / or workshops. Creating insta posts, linkedin content, marketing banners, videos etc.

Poseidon Programme

The Poseidon Programme is our introductory project focusing on building your own RC boats. You can design the boats from scratch or use pre-designed components, and there are many options for upgrading the boats with microcontrollers and sensors! By participating in the Poseidon Programme, you should gain all the neccessary skills to be a competent RC boat builder and a confidence to join more advanced projects.

Underwater Robotics

In the academic year 2025/2026, we plan to expand our activities with underwater robotics. The ROV Team is in the early stages of formation, offering numerous opportunities for hands-on work and a significant impact on the project. Contact us for more details.
