Are you keen to confidently build your public speaking technique? Would you like to learn how to master your body language and hone your presentation skills? Then join Strathclyde Speakers today!
At Strathclyde Speakers, we understand that often, public speaking skills are not formally taught. This can lead to anxiety when we are asked to the deliver presentations confidently at the university-level. We believe that public speaking is a skill and like any other, practice makes perfect. Whether you are a complete beginner or have some experience with oration, we provide a safe space to build up the experience necessary to speak with authority and with ease.
The key to becoming a good public speaker is continual practice and critical feedback. Joining Strathclyde Speakers provides you with the opportunity to deliver formal presentations, practice for job interviews, and any other speaking engagement in a safe and supportive environment.
This year, Strathclyde Speakers ran a brand new Public Speaking Programme in Semester 1 of the academic year. We invited applications from students across all faculties of the university and all year groups to participate in an 11-week structured programme with our public speaking coach.
We had an overwhelming interest from students keen to join us to enhance their skills and from over 150 applications, 40 were selected to proceed to the sessions with our award-winning coach. We met fortnightly for 3 months with the final sessions involving a speaking competition as well as an awards ceremony.
In Semester 2, we had a focus on meeting more socially and discussing what we had learned from the sessions. We were thrilled to see our members come together for various coffee meets and pizza nights to make life-long friends over a shared interest in public speaking.
**We hope to be able to offer the professional public speaking programme again in the 2023/2024 academic year, however this will be dependent on funding. We will likely announce this in June 2023 and if successful in securing funding, theb open our application programme up again in August 2023.**
We recommend that to get the most out of your experience you join us as a member. We ask for a small fee of £10 for the academic year which gives you access to our public speaking programme in semester 1 should you be successful in the application process and to our workshops/regular meets in semester 2.
Strathclyde Speakers is a professional society and as such, you can connect with us on LinkedIn.
