Hot Air Balloons - SUHABS

At SUHABS, we are passionate about hot air ballooning and having recently acquired new society equipment, we are planning to launch our new science communication programme in 2023.

Over the next twelve months, we will be engaging with schools in Glasgow and across Scotland to deliver a programme of STEM activities which will highlight the principles of physics and maths used in aviation. We hope this exciting new programme will encourage more young people to consider STEM careers and also about starting their academic journeys at the University of Strathclyde.

Plans for 2022/2023

The focus of semester 1 will be the design of the programme, curation of content and materials needed for the delivery of activities and any relevant STEM Ambassador training necessary.

Semester 2 onwards will be focused on the delivery of these activities in schools across Glasgow.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated students to join us in creating an educational and innovative STEM programme this year.

Do I need to know anything about hot air balloons?

Absolutely not, you do not need to have had any experience, everyone is welcome to get involved! We do however, ask that anyone who is interested in helping to design our STEM education programme does have some experience of Higher/A-level physics and maths or be prepared to get up to speed with this level of education. 

Do I need to have experience of STEM outreach activities in the past?

Not at all. If you happen to have experience as a STEM Ambassador then that is great! If not then we will work with you to feel comfortable taking part in our outreach activities, including helping you to register as a STEM Ambassador with STEM Learning.
