Details

Key Responsibilities

  • Pilot support: Be hands-on support for biodiversity projects, inc. the SOS nature-friendly campus pilot, supporting a range of activities including; raising awareness, supporting biodiversity baselining and monitoring, supporting grounds management, habitat creation, and community / student engagement.
  • Ecological Monitoring: Take part in biodiversity training and engage with ecological webinars and online training available; Support/conduct ecological monitoring around the Estate on selected sites to help inform biodiversity baselines; Support coordination and running of ‘BioBlitzs’ (community ecological monitoring activities); Support external consultancy hired to perform ecological/habitat surveying; Co-develop a species log of animal and plant life around the Estate; Identify opportunities to enhance biodiversity.  
  • Collaboration: Working closely with Sustainable Strathclyde and the Grounds Team, there are also outreach opportunities to explore working with a range of stakeholders including community groups, local schools, local businesses and organisations to gain/share knowledge and foster wider impact. Further opportunities to support/run citizen science projects and outreach activities as they may occur, as well as collaborating with other student projects. 

 Skills

  • Some knowledge / interest in biodiversity and ecological monitoring (Biodiversity Literacy Training will be provided in Jan 2026)
  • Some knowledge / interest in plant and species identification 
  • Willingness to get hands dirty and work outside throughout the year
  • Proactive and collaborative in nature  
  • Good reporting and presentation skills 
  • Willingness to support and/or lead citizen science type activities
  • Ability to work with staff, students, stakeholders and members of the community in a friendly, approachable manner

Admin

The role will be managed by the University’s Sustainability and Environmental Management Team (Sustainable Strathclyde), a Professional Services team within the Estates Department. The position will work closely with, and have oversight from, the Sustainability Operations Manager, and will be supported by relevant Estates colleagues. There may be additional opportunities to engage with and be supported by external organisations, such as the partner organisations and local wildlife groups.

The role is aligned to Admin and Professional Services Grade 4, the payment scale for which can be viewed here

Where required, access to relevant equipment required to carry out the role, along with University IT access will be provided via the Sustainable Strathclyde Team.
