A Democracy Review is an in-depth evaluation of the democratic structures of an organisation. As a part of this review, we’ve conducted an extensive democracy survey and held many focus groups and interviews.

Here is what we found out:

  • Strengths: Most students feel well-represented (especially academically) and find meaning in Strath Union’s multi-dimensional approach to democracy.
  • Needs: We need to make our democracy easier to understand and navigate. We also need to do a better job connecting rep roles to the day-to-day experiences of students.

As a result of these findings, we’ve worked with Student Parliament and the Board of Trustees to make some changes to our elected officer roles. Based on these changes, the following roles will be up for election in Spring 2026:

Executive Officers

  • Union President (formerly President)
  • Activities President (formerly VP Community)
  • Education President (formerly VP Education)
  • Inclusion President (formerly VP Inclusion)
  • Sports Presiden (formerly VP Sport)

Equality Officers

  • Race Equality Officer (formerly BAME Rep)
  • Women’s Equality Officer (formerly Women's Rep)
  • LGBTQ+ Equality Officer (formerly LGBT+ Rep)
  • Disability Equality Officer (formerly Disabled Students' Rep)
  • International Student Officer (formerly International Students' Rep)

Faculty Representatives

  • Undergraduate Business Faculty Representative
  • Undergraduate Engineering Faculty Representative
  • Undergraduate HaSS Faculty Representative
  • Undergraduate Science Faculty Representative

Stay tuned for more information about these changes, including in-depth role descriptions and guidance about how you can participate in the Spring Elections!
