In December 2020, sixteen Strathclyde students put on some rubber gloves, grabbed a bin bag and volunteered to collect litter in their local communities as part of a UK-wide competition ran by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.

Hedgehogs are particularly vulnerable to becoming trapped in litter due to being covered in thousands of spines which, unfortunately, leads to many hedgehog deaths every year.

Our fantastic volunteers collected 26 bags filled with rubbish in order to clean up the environment and protect local wildlife, contributing to a UK total of 697.5 bags collected across 22 universities.
