How is it connected to sustainability?

Sustainabile activism is defined as the actions of individuals or groups that aim to protect or support the environment. This could include support and advocacy for sustainable practices but also bringing attention to serious issues which are harming the environment such as climate change, global warming or biodiversity loss. Activists mobilise others to use their voices to speak out on these causes, as well as use their votes and money to influence global leaders - corporations, public or governmental institutions.

Anyone can become an advocate for sustainability and any of its wide-ranging issues, provided you are willing to learn about the issues, speak up and take action. It is important as ever to take up the fight as the effects of climate change are having more and more devastating consequences.

People & Planet

People & Planet is the largest student network in the UK campaigning for social and environmental justice. They have three main goals:

  • Empower the next generation of change-makers by training and mentoring young people, including those underrepresented in social movements, to become key drivers of change, with skills and motivations that last their whole lives.
  • Achieve systemic change by developing cutting edge campaigns in coalition with front-lines communities, which tackle the root causes of social and environmental injustice, and create radical alternatives and narratives that are able to shift mainstream opinion and structures.
  • Transform the education sector by steering universities and colleges to play a just role in the economy, and act as hotbeds for new ideas able to develop a more egalitarian, sustainable world.
