Arts and Culture relate deeply to sustainability as we seek to maintain cultural beliefs, cultural practices and heritage conservation. These diverse views and expressions of the world are necessary to find comprehensive solutions to issues such as climate change.
For example, we can learn much from global indigenous communities who respect and work in partnership with their natural environment. Unfortunately, globalisation and the systemic erasure of these groups continue to threaten cultural sustainability to create homogeneity. As we face increasing instability in our world, preserving cultural identities is crucial to sustaining and evolving our societies in the face of these challenges. History and art are critical components in reminding us of this.
