How is it connected to sustainability?

Sustainable travel is travel that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment, and host communities.

This includes both local travelling or commuting using public or non-emitting transport such as buses and bikes, as well as considering travelling slower for leisure and taking alternative transport as opposed to flying, such as train or boat.

Travel is shown to account for around 5% of global warming through CO2 emissions, and can also lead to overuse of water, land degradation and improper waste disposal. As such, it is worthwhile to consider within the context of our environment, how we may travel more sustainability, and offset any emissions that we do emit even as we do.
