A quiet space for anyone who needs it.

A quiet space for anyone who needs it.

Who can use this space?

The Quiet Room is a space for all students to use for getting away from the loud hustle and bustle of busy campus life. Inside you can find sofas and chairs, adjustable lighting, fidget toys, soft blankets, etc.

Please be respectful

Please be mindful and give space to students who may be affected by sensory overload or experience sensory processing disorder, students who are experiencing mental health issues or students who are feeling overwhelmed.

How to find the space?

You can access the Quiet Room from both the 51 Richmond Street and 49 North Portland Street entrances of the Learning and Teaching building.

You can find out about step free access to the Union on this page. We would recommend using the 51 Richmond Street entrance to access the Quiet Room.

Once inside the Union head for the ramp or stairs to the right of the welcome desk pictured in the bottom left of this image.

From the reception desk follow the ramp or stairs to the Audre Lorde room pictured in the top left of this picture. The room has turquoise signage displayed outside.

The room is to the left of the Advice Hub which is located at the end of the ramp. The end of the ramp is pictured with the Advice Hub entrance opposite this but not pictured.

The entrance to the room with signage is pictured on the far left of the picture. The end of the ramp is at the other side of the white pillar with the socket just seen at the far right hand side of the picture.

The room remains unlocked during our opening hours and has a dimmable light. The light switch is tucked in behind a chair located on the left hand side of the room as you enter.

Quiet Hour

Every day (Monday-Friday) between 9am and 10am is Quiet Hour at Strath Union. During this time no music is played on level 1 and 2, and the screens are either off or display a message that it's quiet hour.

By establishing a quiet hour, we are helping to create a less sensory stimulating space for all, but will be particularly helpful to those who may be neurodivergent or have mental health issues. There is some noise that is unavoidable e.g coffee machines, phones ringing, radio calls, deliveries however where possible we will encourage everyone to be mindful of the noise they make during the hour.

Other quiet spaces on campus:

Places of worship

Private breastfeeding facilities
