Amir Al Lawati received the Business Rep of the Year award at STAR Awards 2019.
Highlighting the work of Strath Union's volunteers who have gone above and beyond for the Union and within communities, Amir said:
"My journey of being Class Rep and Faculty Rep has been very insightful and enriching. I became Class Rep in my second year and I carried on with it until the end of my degree – a total of 3 years. As an academic representative, I received training and support from the Students’ Union, which helped me become confident in the role.
"Being Class Rep enabled me to make the most of my degree at the university and enhance other students’ experience. Also, I was able to mention my experience during job interviews and in my CV, which I believe has helped me stand out when applying for internships and other roles. This is very valuable in a competitive job market where everyone is doing their best.
"I would recommend to everyone studying at Strathclyde to get involved with academic representation. It is a good learning experience and can definitely help with your career opportunities!"
