The Divest Strathclyde University Campaign is gaining traction!
The campaign was recently featured by Libby Brooks, Correspondent for the Guardian in Scotland
From organising banner making sessions, attending 3 Climate Strikes, 40+ people attending film screenings and joining forces with recently established Strathclyde Extinction Rebellion and Glasgow Caledonian Extinction Rebellion societies… this divestment campaign is gaining traction.
In light of Stirling University joining the other 71 Universities across the UK which have already divested from fossil fuels there begins to feel an urgency behind the divestment movement.
The growing petition started by Divest Strathclyde University has sparked this as a conversation within the classroom as this is a topic relevant to multiple disciplines. Such as economics, policy making, engineering, etc.
It is clear that fossil fuels are not a sustainable way to get our energy, and immediately stopping their use is not realistic, however, what drives a shift in the energy market? It’s not only government policies. It’s Money.
For this reason it is important for large institutions to put their money into the right industries. Especially educational institutions. This is shown by the sheer number of Universities that have already divested.
So what are you waiting for? Share and sign the petition here so that Strathclyde does not continue to be the one left behind.
