My name’s Maddy and I’m your new VP sport for the coming year! In my time at Strathclyde I’ve spent a significant section (probably too much) of that with my sports cubs and getting involved in the Sports Union’s sports executive committee. I’m passionate about club sport development as well as recreational sport to help students live a healthy lifestyle around the many stresses and demands of university.
In my time outside of the sports community I studied politics and journalism with a dissertation in (yep you guessed it) sports policy. My own sports are cross-country running and horse riding and coming from a small, country town I love nothing more than a long, muddy run in the hills. My sports clubs have become my second family while at uni and I honestly don’t know how I would’ve got through my degree without them. Having the time to switch off from your studies, let off some steam and spend time with like-minded people is incredibly important not only for your physical health but also your mental well-being.
My main goals for the year will be to work on the development of competitive and recreational sport within the uni drawing on the huge expertise of the Sports Union and Strathclyde Sport staff. I’ll be promoting the benefits of sport far and wide using our sports union social media channels so make sure you’re following them all to keep up to date with all our updates including regular social events such as the Captain’s Dinner, bus crawl and sports ball.
I’m a big believer that sport should be fun, sociable and open to all which is why this year I’ll be working hard to make sure as many people as possible can get involved in sport and physical activity at Strathclyde.
