For far too long, impunity, silence and stigma have allowed violence against women to escalate to pandemic proportions - one in three women worldwide experience gender-based violence. 16 Days of Action is an international campaign to challenge gender-based violence in all its forms.
From 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day, we will be running a variety of workshops, discussion groups and events.
Our biggest event will take place on 29 November - it's Fight for the Night, a march through the city centre of Glasgow to show solidarity to survivors of rape and sexual assault, and to demand safer streets for all.
Statement from your Student Exec:
"We were elected as your student exec to represent you and to help shape all aspects of your student experience. Sexual harassment or assault should never be an aspect of your student experience. And yet, in 2019, this is still something that our students still have to face on a day to day basis.
Over the course of the year, it has become apparent how pressing an issue of sexual harassment is in the lives of our students. This continues to be a problem that tarnishes many of our students’ time at university. Change is much needed and welcomed on our campus. We can and should be doing better for our students.
During the 16 Days of Action, we will be working hard to eradicate harassment and gender-based violence on campus. From the 25th November, which marks the first day of the 16 Days, we will be running campaigns to counter gender-based violence and sexism. 'Fight for the Night' will be a highlight of the 16 Days, and we will be marching alongside you to reclaim the streets and the campus."
