Coronavirus (COVID-19) &FAQs

Guidance and support

This is where you can request your volunteering certificates. If you've logged your volunteering hours on our website, you can request an annual Volunteering Hours Certificate, a Volunteering Achievement Record or a Reference Letter.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions and homeworking, we're currently only able to provide electronic copies of these documents.

You can expect to receive your documents within 7 working days (although we're normally quicker). Sometimes we may need additional information from you.

Your Volunteering Hours Certificate shows the total number of volunteering hours you have completed in one academic year. This includes any volunteering you have done over the summer (prior to the start of the year).

Click here to see what it looks like.

Your Volunteering Achievement Record shows all the volunteering you have taken part in over the course of your studies, including your roles of responsibility, hours logged per academic year and any awards you might have won or achieved - including the Skills Award (logged 20 hours and skills in 3 categories) and the Volunteering Gold Certificate (logged over 200 hours in an academic year).

This is super handy when you're looking for graduate jobs, or even applying for further study. Because it's a more comprehensive document, we recommend that you request one at graduation but we're happy to provide one any time you need it.

Although not necessary, it is helpful if you give us details of awards you would like us to include.

You can also request a reference letter from us. Typically, this would be sent to you on headed paper with information confirming your roles of responsibility, involvement in volunteering and any hours or skills you logged.

If we've worked with you more closely (Welcome Team, Clubs Exec, Sports Exec, Faculty Rep, Student Trustees), we may be able to provide you with a more detailed reference. Please include any relevant information to help us compile the letter, including who the letter should be addressed to and names of staff members you worked with. This allows us to respond to you as quickly as possible.

If you need something different, or if you have any questions, please email strathunion.volunteers@strath.ac.uk.
