Befriender for G51/52

This opportunity takes place between 31 Jul 2023 and 10 Dec 2023

The No.1 Befriending Agency is a vibrant local social enterprise that works to reduce loneliness and isolation. We welcome people from any background to join our great team where, by leading activities at online events, you will make a positive impact in your community and support vulnerable adults (65+). By taking part, you will build service users confidence and improve their quality of life. You will also help develop the dynamic of the organisation for service users, strengthening the friendly and inclusive environment that has been created. We aim to reduce the loneliness and isolation of vulnerable people in Glasgow using a variety of platforms, from face-to-face and telephone befriending to online events. This role gives volunteers the opportunity to provide distance befriending and become part of the dynamic and friendly team at the No.1 Befriending Agency, significantly contributing to the reduction of loneliness and isolation amongst older people. Our aim is to provide an enjoyable social experience by giving companionship over the phone through the Covid-19 pandemic. We encourage communication on meaningful topics or shared interests, the creation of social connections and peer support, but mostly having some fun and laughter. Our aim is to protect the older people we support or those with existing health conditions by avoiding direct contact. Our clients are typically over the age of 65 and are lonely so will benefit from some social interaction over the phone. This role requires a 6 month minimum commitment ( equivalent of two matches) and we will aim to match you with someone local to you. Tasks of a Befriender: Visiting your befriender once a week (maximum one hour a week) Helping befriendee reach the goals they set (eg improving self-confidence, learning a new skill, feeling more connected) Filling out visit log to send to peer supporter or volunteer coordinator Meeting with peer supporter/volunteer coordinator to discuss how the match is going
