Events Volunteer

Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity hosts a wide range of events and activities throughout the year, and they simply wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our volunteers. From collecting donations outside Hampden Stadium to getting creative with arts and crafts alongside children at Silverburn, there are lots of different ways to get involved — so there really is something for everyone! One of the best things about volunteering at our events is the flexibility. You can choose the activities you’d like to support and decide how much time you’re able to give. Whether you can spare a few hours at one event or get involved regularly throughout the year, every contribution makes a difference. Through our events and fundraising, we help ensure that every baby, child and young person treated at Scotland’s largest children’s hospital receives the extra special care they deserve. The money raised helps us support the incredible people who care for and nurture children and young people at some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives. It also enables us to invest in vital equipment, support pioneering research, and continue improving facilities and services for children and their families in hospital. By volunteering with us, you’ll be helping to make a real difference to children and families when they need it most.

Each event is different, with a variety of tasks and opportunities available. Before signing up, you’ll receive full details about what’s involved, so you can choose the events and activities that are right for you.

Shift times vary depending on the event.

Essential Requirements

  • Able to commit to scheduled shifts
  • Punctual, dependable, and able to follow instructions
  • Friendly, approachable, and confident interacting with the public
  • Willing to work collaboratively with staff and other volunteers

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous volunteer experience
  • Previous cash handling experience

Commitment Required

No minimum commitment required.

Induction & Training

  • All volunteers receive a full induction before their first shift.
  • Training includes:
    • Health & safety procedures for the event
    • Basic cash handling procedures
    • Customer service guidance for interacting with supporters

Supervision & Onsite Support

  • Each shift has a GCHC staff member present
  • Volunteers are always supported while on duty—whether it’s their first or fifth shift
  • Help is on hand to deal with any unexpected issues or questions from the public

Wellbeing & Inclusion

  • GCHC is committed to creating an inclusive, welcoming space for all volunteers
  • Volunteers can share any access or support needs during onboarding

Recognition

  • Volunteers are warmly recognised and thanked throughout their journey with us
  • Volunteer hours are recognised with a small gift with each hour's milestone reached
