Strath Union is an organisation dedicated to supporting students throughout their years at university and beyond.

Welcome Team

This opportunity takes place between 12 Sep 2025 and 21 Sep 2025 Closing date for applications is 31 Aug.

Join Strath Union Welcome Team to make this Freshers' Week the best one yet!

The Welcome Team is made up of a diverse group of current students from all faculties and years who encourage new and returning students to get involved with Freshers' Week. This amazing Team is responsible for setting up fairs and staffing stalls, offering campus tours and making Strath as welcoming as possible by talking to students and letting them know about everything we have to offer. Volunteers will need to have basic knowledge of the University and be approachable, friendly and enthusiastic – everything else will be covered in the full training that is provided!

Welcome Team is back for another year of providing a warm welcome to new students joining us in September 2025.

As a Welcome Team volunteer, you will have the chance to make a real impact on the experience of new students from diverse backgrounds. You will receive training and have the chance to be part of a wonderful team of fellow students, expanding your network and gaining new skills along the way.

In the role your main tasks will include helping students move in, handing out goody bags, answering questions and sharing information, setting up and encouraging participation in fairs and other events and leading Union and Campus Tours. And above all else just having lots of fun and making new friends!

Your volunteering will be fully flexible to fit around your studies, work and other commitments - you can take part in shifts at times that suit you best! Fresher's week is taking place 12th to 21st September 2025. We ask that you make a minimum commitment of 4 hours per week. For you to make the most of your experience, we recommend volunteering upwards of 20 hours over the Freshers’ period.

You will always be volunteering with at least one other person and as always, we provide you with a team uniform (the iconic pink T-shirts)!

All you need to take part is enthusiasm for helping new students. If that's you, register your interest now!

Benefits to self

It’s a chance to meet new people, make friends, and boost your knowledge about services available on campus. You will have the chance to develop skills in team-work, event organisation, public speaking, problem-solving among others!

Benefits to others

The Team makes an impact on thousands of new students arriving at Strathclyde by helping people make the most of Freshers' Week, being a friendly face at an uncertain time, and making sure new students have help finding their feet at University.

Training available

All key information about Freshers' Week and Union services will be covered in a training session to ensure Welcome Teamers are able to deal with student enquiries with confidence. We'll also do some fun team building! Additional training will be offered for specific tasks throughout the week leading up to Freshers' Week.
