Peer Wellbeing Mentor/Supporter

This opportunity is ongoing, with no end date.

Peer mentors will meet with a peer mentee on a regular basis over the academic year to provide a listening ear and share their lived and living experiences of university life to inspire, equip and empower their peer. The mentoring project offers flexibility around the time commitments of both students, support can be offered on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis. Peer mentors/supporters also have an opportunity to get involved in different events running across the university as part of the peer wellbeing programme.

All Peer Wellbeing supporters will be required to apply for a basic disclosure through Disclosure Scotland – this process will be guided by the Peer Wellbeing Project Leader.

Peer support provides volunteers with opportunities to develop or enhance desirable graduate employability skills such as leadership, communication, organisation and problem solving skills. Peer supporters will also be offered further recognised training opportunities that can be added to their CV.

Peer supporters provide social, emotional, and informal academic support to their peers to facilitate their skill development and promote positive changes in their approach to their studies and their mental wellbeing.

Peer mentors/supporters must undertake a compulsory peer support awareness training and will be offered additional recognised training from different partnership organisations.

Peer Supporters will be offered regular group peer support sessions facilitated by the Peer Support Project Leader and ongoing support on an ad hoc basis.
