Writing Mentor - Classroom

Ongoing

Closing date for applications is 28 Aug.

We are seeking writing mentors to help young people tell their stories! We work with young people (8-18) during school time to boost their confidence through creative writing. Our volunteers work with a small group of learners in the classroom, supporting them in their writing process. You do not have to be a writer to become a mentor, just lots of enthusiasm, patience and passion! We need your help to work directly with young people by providing individualised writing support during workshops that take place during class time. You don’t need experience as a writer, all you need to do is listen, be willing to talk, ask and answer questions, and be a positive presence. Volunteers are needed when workshops take place. You don’t have to be a writer to be one of our writing mentors – you give young people superpowers through encouragement and enthusiasm. We won’t make you wear a cape, but you will definitely feel like a superhero. Our workshops run during school hours throughout Monday–Friday and each shift is around 1 and 2 hours. We ask for a commitment of 8 workshops per year

Super Power Agency

Founded in 2016, The Super Power Agency aims to improve the lives and literacy rates of some of Edinburgh's most under-resourced young people. Through a range of writing workshops, interdisciplinary creative programmes and the help of community volunteers, we aim to empower children and young people (8-18 years) through literacy. We are currently working with Leith Academy, with plans to expand to other schools and youth-serving organisations in Edinburgh and beyond.
