Location: Mostly remote/home-based, with occasional meetings in Pollokshields, Glasgow
Time commitment: Approximately 1–1.5 hours per week, with some additional time when applications are being prepared

About Common Thread Vision

Common Thread Vision (CTV) is a small community-based registered charity in Pollokshields, Glasgow. We primarily support older ethnic minority women, while welcoming women of all backgrounds and ages.

We provide activities including our weekly Lunch Club, Arts & Crafts, yoga and chair yoga, massage therapy, social activities, outings and trips. Our work aims to improve health and wellbeing, reduce loneliness and social isolation, and help women stay active, connected and independent.

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable Volunteer Grant Writer to help CTV identify suitable funding opportunities and prepare grant applications.

Previous practical experience of writing and preparing grant or funding applications is essential.

We are looking for someone who can work independently and take responsibility for researching suitable funding opportunities and preparing applications.

This is not a training role for someone looking to learn grant writing from scratch. Applicants should already have some practical experience of preparing funding applications and be confident working independently.

What You Will Do

• Research funding opportunities that are suitable for CTV.
• Regularly check relevant funding websites and identify potential grants.
• Read funding criteria and assess whether opportunities are suitable for our work.
• Prepare and develop grant and funding applications.
• Use information and previous applications provided by CTV.
• Gather any additional information or supporting documents needed.
• Keep track of opportunities and application deadlines.
• Work independently while keeping the Chair updated.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone with:

• Practical experience of writing and preparing grant or funding applications.
• Experience researching and identifying suitable funding opportunities.
• Good written English and clear communication skills.
• Good research and organisational skills.
• Attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Confidence working independently.

Relevant experience may come from employment, volunteering, community work, university projects or other organisations. You do not need to have worked under the job title of Grant Writer.

What CTV Will Provide

We will provide an introduction to CTV, information about our activities and work, previous funding applications and relevant information needed to prepare new applications.

The volunteer will then independently research suitable opportunities and prepare applications.
