Candidate for the position of Vice President Sport
Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, why not participate in sport activities?
Hello, I am Samuel Wong, a Third-Year Undergraduate student in Strathclyde Business School. I am also a cycling enthusiast and an active member of British Cycling.
My motivation for taking part in this election is to promote sporting activities and to increase Student Mental Wellbeing Awareness and the provision of appropriate support for all students and athletes. I would also ensure our athletes are granted all the needed academic support with enough flexibility on attendance and submission of course works.
If elected, my top priorities would be the following areas:
1-Ensure Wednesday afternoons are completely free for sports.
I would like to ensure that Wednesday afternoons remain completely free for sports, starting from 12pm instead 1 pm to enable our athletes to have more time for their preparation and travel to events and competitions.
2-Increase funding for student Mental Wellbeing
I will lobby the university to increase the funding for Student Mental Wellbeing and hire more counsellors. I will run workshops on Student Mental Wellbeing including first aid trainings on Mental Health and on Preventive Measures.
3-Encourage students to use the new Sport building
With the new Centre for Sport and Recreation (CSR) building opening this August, I would like to encourage more students to be active in sports and to make a better use of the facility. I would also ensure the membership fee is reasonable enough, so many students can afford to use the facility.
4-Discover more potential elite athletes and offer them appropriate support
Strathclyde Sports Union has many different sport clubs and I hope to increase the number of elite athletes that can represent our university and to provide them all the needed support.
Please vote Samuel Wong #1 for Vice President Sports and Wellbeing. Thank you!
