New Strath Union Student Exec 2018/19!

Students at University of Strathclyde have made their voice heard in the Student Elections, choosing a diverse Student Executive to lead change at Strathclyde Students’ Union (Strath Union) from June 2018.

Manish Joshi, Strath Union CEO, is delighted with the results, telling us “I am very happy with the turnout of 3,846 voters at this year’s elections, especially amidst the challenging external circumstances including UCU strikes and extreme weather conditions! Strathclyde students have elected a strong Student Executive who will work to represent all students and enhance the student experience - taking action on a breadth of issues that affect students on our campus.”

Ahead of the elections, a 2017 Gender Review undertaken by former Strath Union Vice President Diversity Simran Kaur, highlighted the need for more female candidates and this insight underpinned a campaign named ‘This Strath Girl Can’, which was designed to empower women by sharing the achievements and motivations of female staff and students. The success is reflected in the election results, with a positive gender balance making up the Student Executive this year. A result that is particularly significant the day after International Women’s Day.

The new Student Exec will take up position in June; from there on, they will be focussed on listening to and representing student views to the University and wider community. We wish them the best of luck and look forward to being part of their term office!
