Candidate for the position of Vice President Sport
The Experienced Candidate. For The Best University Experience.
Strong Representation: There are big changes coming to the university and Sports Union, now and in the near future. The new sports facility, membership reforms, a new kit supplier and the new Student Union building. It is more important than ever that our opinions are heard, and our input is seriously considered in the important decisions which will affect us. I will aim to make sure all the 53 sports clubs and 3000+ members of the Sports Union have their views represented and are better off because of these changes, with more training time, more funding and facilities tailored to their needs and specifications.
Events Focus: I will work with sports clubs to organize new, bigger sporting events, exhibitions and social functions which will create interest and excitement around our sports clubs and athletes. My background in Events Management will be useful in planning the Sports Union Awards Ball. I aim to make it bigger and better than ever, with more tickets available and at a lower cost per ticket.
Sports Club Growth: I will push for sustainable, long-term growth for all sports clubs, working with our sports teams to establishing tailored made 5-year plans for each club. Over the last 4 years I have taken the Muay Thai Club from a small group of athletes to a large mainstream sports club, capable of running classes for anyone from complete beginners, to semi-pro fighters & student athletes. Similarly, I aim to establish a pathway for all clubs to have professional coaching and be able to cater to 3 categories of members; Casual, recreational and semi-pro. Meaning each club should be able to support a dedicated team of athletes as well as take on complete beginners at any point of the year.
