Higher expectations for your higher education.

Hi, I’m Kayla Burns, your current VP Community. This year I have had an exceptional time while in office and I'm bursting with ideas for another year in the union – but this time hopefully as your president!

  • FAIR FUNDING:

    • A flat rate of funding from the university for every student independent of their fees in order to increase the budget for student events, trips, and improve spaces such as SUMSA and the MSA, plus essential amenities for commuting students i.e. lockers, microwaves.
  • Transport:

    • Free and accessible transport for students
  • Opportunities:

    • improve student job opportunities through union-university partnership
    • Increase maths skills, and study skills centre provisions
    • Survey sharing platform for coursework
  • Wellbeing:

    • Cut counselling services wait times
    • Increase the accessibility of wellbeing services for international students
    • Safe walkways and lighting throughout campus
  • New union building:

    • A hub for student’s art, music, and media
    • One-for-all card access
    • Smooth transition
  • Climate:

    • Develop the unions sustainability strategies
    • Maximum involvement with COP26 while mitigating any challenges
  • Improved freshers:

    • Non-alcohol-oriented events
    • Event diversity; events for mature, commuting, and international students
  • Accommodation:

    • Prevent rent increases and improve living standard in halls
    • Student reps for private halls

Still not convinced?

What I have done:

  • Assisted in setting a decarbonisation target
  • Secured a net zero rent increase in halls
  • Increased microwave facilities on campus
  • Introduced QR codes for society equipment
  • New society training scheme
