Support Each Other and Our Environment

My name is Saul and I am currently in my first year studying Civil Engineering.  This is however my second degree and I am well aware of the challenges that students face, especially now in the days of COVID-19.

My Priorities:

Work harder to reduce university drop-out rates

  • Buddy system pairing older students with first years to act as a first port of call for issues.
  • Easily accessible money advice.  Prevent students being priced out of university
  • Targeted support for student sectors with different needs such as mature students and part time students.
  • Strong mental health support:
    • Campaigning to allow students to register with two doctor’s surgeries, one for term-time and another for home.
    • Set up of peer support groups for mental health issues, talking with others has been proven to help, especially with those who understand your issues.

Invest in the environment

Our university is in the centre of Glasgow and the ideal location to encourage urban greenery.  Climbing plants on walls and no maintenance shrubs along wide paths and on otherwise wasted ground are an easy way to help reduce urban temperatures and pollution.  This is something that I hope I can encourage within other university campuses too.

If my proposals are things that you believe will make student life better, please consider voting for me.

Saul.
