Candidate for the position of NUS Scotland Conference Delegate
A Vote for Liberation & Equity
I have over a year of experience working full time in a representative role, where I take issues that you care about to a high level. As a conference delegate, I would be able to take these issues to other student unions around Scotland and make them a national issue. I have a liberation focus, and care deeply about race equity, accessibility and gender-based violence.
GENDER BASED VIOLENCE
In 2019, I ran a campaign on gender-based violence and sexism at Strathclyde, that culminated in a 400-person strong march to raise money for rape crisis Scotland. If I were your NUS Scotland delegate it would allow me to take these issues to a larger platform, and my hope would be to run anti-gender-based violence campaigns with other student unions.
RACE EQUITY
I’ve worked toward achieving a decolonised curriculum, campus and culture at Strathclyde, something I believe is of vital importance in breaking down the systematic racism in Universities, especially in light of campaigns like Black Lives Matter. I want to push a national approach to decolonising our Universities and work together to ensure that BIPOC students are welcome on every campus in Scotland.
ACCESSIBILITY
Accessibility is also of vital importance to me. It is crucial that accessibility is maintained for students, not only throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, but also when students return to campus. We must ensure that our online resources are easy and comfortable to use. Students must have clear access to their course materials and campuses.
