As VP Inclusion 2022/23, I have worked on ensuring all students have access to support regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, (a)gender, sexuality, age, disability, faith, spiritual beliefs, and experience.

I am excited to achieve more for you through my manifesto:

Optimisation

  • Refine approaches to champion inclusion and cultural groups through belongingness, engagement, safety, accessibility and pride.
  • Improve support for men’s mental health.

Community

  • Diversify events (consider sensory requirements, mindfulness, and mid-day events and cultural celebrations).
  • Lobby support for placement and study abroad students (especially those with protected characteristics).

Empowerment

  • Cultivate diverse leadership through networking and training.
  • Provide financial literacy training (especially for care experienced/estranged students).

Accessibility

  • Facilitate the Accessible Learning Forum – co-create the future of education.
  • Lead Accessible Campus Project – design a better navigating experience.

Nurture

  • Ensure the University continues researching its relationship with the slave trade history and takes appropriate action.
  • Promote understanding of diversity through the @StrathFocus Campaign - featuring diverse student journeys.

Passion Projects
I will apply for the alumni fund for:

  • An App that shows real-time availability for study space
  • A Reception Service that actively supports disabled people

Ongoing Projects

  • Pre-arrival inductions (for widening access and international students);
  • Translation of information on physical and mental health care and housing;
  • Deaf awareness;
  • Resource packages for inclusion groups (e.g.LGBTQ+);
  • Introvert-friendly Events.

If you share my vision, please vote ‘Yu-Chu (Kathy) Doong’ #1 for VP Inclusion!
