My plan for my time as Vice President Education is divided into three core areas which I believe will tackle the full range of the most pressing issues that students face today.
Cap Student Numbers
Help to mitigate the housing crisis
Improve staff conditions and student:staff ratio
As a result improve quality and timings of feedback
Ensure appropriate classrooms and class sizes
Ease pressure on services
Access to Information
Clearer timetables which are released in good time to allow for student planning and preparation
Push for improved communication from the University such as for international students
Easy-to-access information regarding what mental health, academic and other support services are available
Linking these services to allow for quicker and more appropriate support
Communicate what I and the Union are working on during my time in role
Sharing good practice
Share useful methods of working between classes, departments and faculties to improve student experience across the board
Adopt good practice from other universities and student unions to allow for quicker implementation of improvements
My delivery of this plan will place student engagement at its centre by giving students direct involvement in developing solutions to the problems they encounter.
Co-Design
Get students involved throughout the entire process: making decisions on critical issues, generating possible solutions, evaluating the best solution and how it should be implemented and determining how we will define success
This approach is followed by the mental health charity Mind: https://www.mind.org.uk/workplace/influence-and-participation-toolkit/how/methods/co-design/
