Candidate for the position of Vice President Welfare
Always be you
Hi, My name is Darling Gonzalez.
I’m in the MSc International Social Welfare Program. I’m an international student, born and raised in New York City. I’m Latino and speak Spanish. I’ll be running for the seat of Vice President of Welfare. I’ve been in the field of welfare for a couple of years, as a case manager/ social worker served the mental health, homeless and substance use community. This is my passion; I love to help people in any way possible. My time here so far has been good but of course, could have been better. Well-being is very important for everyone doesn’t matter if your local or international student. This affects you in so many ways. One of the changes I would like to focus on is strengthening the university's services for students’ well-being. Establishing and collaborating with our community services, especially for international students can community with someone in their native language. I’ve witnessed these struggles and have felt helpless as this is an area where the university can improve on. With your help, if elected I'll be able to utilize my skills of active listening and advocating, we can work together and make sure these improvements occur in any shape or form. There is so much potential here I see it every day and I know we can do better. This is our home so let's work together to make our home better.
