Following the latest Covid-19 announcement from the Scottish Government yesterday (7th October 2020), we, the University of Strathclyde Sports Union, have made the decision to suspend all Sports Union activity from Friday 9th October until further notice or advised otherwise. Our aim is to resume activity from Monday 26th October.
This includes any ‘club sport’ activity (i.e. training, competitions and events) scheduled by any of our 53 sports clubs.
The decision has not been made lightly and follows the new restrictions coming in to place for the central belt of Scotland which focuses on the five health board areas (i.e. Ayrshire & Arran; Forth Valley; Greater Glasgow & Clyde; Lanarkshire; Lothian):
- No group exercise classes for indoor gyms and sports courts, pools with an exemption for under 18s
- No adult (18+) contact sports or training, except professional sports, indoor or outdoor
- Public transport use should be minimised as much as possible, such as for education and work, where it cannot be done from hom
- Current meeting rules, maximum of six people from two households, continue to apply
The Sports Union office is in the process of withdrawing club activities scheduled on the online booking system dated between 9th to 25th October (inclusive). Automated emails will be delivered to participants currently signed up informing of the cancellation.
Club committee groups were informed of the decision to suspend all Sports Union activity and have been asked to share details with their club members. Assistance is being provided by Sports Union staff to enact cancellation plans for clubs.
Our thanks to all club members, volunteers, coaches and officials for your support during this next period of measures imposed on sporting activity to curb the spread of Coronavirus in Scotland.
Further updates will be released should the situation develop.
Yours in student sport
Strathclyde Sports Union
